"Charlie Don't Surf " Post 2-The Undeclared War

The beginnings of America's intervention in Vietnam, plus first film in this Vietnam season , Can't say I thought much of Platoon (I found it very overblown with it's Adiago music  in comparrison to the contemporary music of  Apocalyspe Now+ Flight of the Valkaries also worked perfectly but with Platoon I just didn't think it worked )and Born on the Fourth of July (Tom Cruise nuff said -not a fan) maybe I'll identify more with this film(seeing as it is about someone who comes from Vietnam)I  never got around to seeing it  first time around.

"Charlie Don't Surf " Post 1-Dien Bien Phu

First of a series of Vietnam War posts this week, partially inspired by playing COD Black Ops(stories a bit too James Bondy although fun  .. I think these Call of Duty  games should get back to there roots like in the first few games and depict real Battles again as you learn a bit of history along the way)
The Vietnam War was in it's closing stages in my youth It was barely mentioned on T.V in the mid to late 70's  in fact , it was kind of like people wanted to forget about it as soon as possible , I first learnt about it I guess in 1980 (I would of been too young to see Apocalypse Now but I did read comics)in a story called Fighting Mann drawn by Cam Kennedy printed in Battle picture Weekly  (I'd say it's the best 'Nam comic ever produced but it still hasn't been bought out in Graphic novel format  when it  really should be)and another story that was printed in another British comic called Victor which depicted the events at Dien Bien Phu through the eyes of a French Para (can't recalll title ,of the story but comics did address this moment in history) So all this week I'll be trying to learn more about Vietnam War and if I can post links to a few movies that  depict what's going on in the documentaries I'll be posting here .. In this case the films in French and I can't find any subtitled version so I've only posted a few clips.

The Flight Of The Earls -Part 1

From the Blues to the Greens , this is kind of a personal post for me as I wanted to learn more about my family history seeing as they did sod all Irish History at my school(it was all about the British Empire) so I did some research at last after years of knowing that my family had something to do with the Earls of Tyrone but I never got around to finding out much about it until now.. In fact one of my may of ancestors actually crowned O'Neill the Last King of Ireland(my family coat of arms features a boot which is how he was coronated )Now I know why my Dad was named Hugh , and it's good to know I have Rebel Aristocracy in my blood.

A mix of old and new eastern bloc garage and surf music , sadly theres no Crushers videos a Moscow group I rate very highly, plus The Regents and The Hunters are from USA and Holland , it's just that those tunes really fitted well.
Updated found a excellent link where you can listen to the whole of The Spoons (that's band in the first video here ) whole back catalogue ..   http://music.yugomedia.com/slim.php?jz_path=ABC/S/Spoons
Really excellent Snotty Garage  !!!
